Copenhagen Airports introduces unique wireless technology
28-05-2008
Location and infrastructure:
As the first airport in the world Copenhagen Airports, the IT University of Copenhagen together with a number of collaboration partners are testing a new wireless technology which is to help reduce the number of late flights in the future and secure a safer start of the passengers’ travel, announces the airport in its press release.
In the next six months Copenhagen Airports, the IT University and a number of collaboration partners are to test a new wireless technology every third week on SAS departures. The participants will receive a small plastic card the size of a credit card which is fastened on their clothes when they have stated a mobile number. When the passengers are moving about in the airport the cards’ signal is caught by the 25 centrally placed antennas in the airport. The result is that the employees at the gate are able to follow whether passengers are about to be late for the flight, are staying close to the gate, or whether the luggage is to be taken out of the flight in order not to delay departure. In this way the number of late flights due to the passengers’ delayed appearance can be significantly reduced.
